This was painted for Al "Carnival Time" Johnson for his 64th birthday.The nickname comes from the song he wrote and recorded when he was in his early twenties... one of the most famous and loved Mardi Gras songs.
Al lost that painting when his home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
He has a new home in the Musician's Villiage, and I recently gave him a print of this.
Louisiana born artist Beverly Boulet began art studies at age four, and, luckily, had art classes all through elementary and high school, plus Summer art camps. She studied fashion design at West Virginia University, and continued her art education with workshops by noted portrait artists, including John Howard Sanden, Daniel Greene, and Foster Caddell. Ms. Boulet began painting murals and portraits in the early 1970�s at the Maryland and New Jersey beaches, and continued to do so upon returning to New Orleans in 1980. She has painted, literally, thousands of portraits in water media, pastel, and oils, which grace public and private collections internationally.
