This is a painting of a young girl, on a New Orleans balcony, holding a puppy.
It is actually a portrait of me at 18 or 19, holding Chiarascura ( Kyra) as a puppy. She had just died' at age 7- almost 8, from bone cancer, and I painted this to help me get through my grief.The gay feathers were added because it was Carnival season, and I didn't feel celebratory, but we liked the painting so much that we had it printed as a poster that year.
Louisiana born artist Beverly Boulet began art studies at age four, and, luckily, had art classes all through elementary and high school, plus Summer art camps. She studied fashion design at West Virginia University, and continued her art education with workshops by noted portrait artists, including John Howard Sanden, Daniel Greene, and Foster Caddell. Ms. Boulet began painting murals and portraits in the early 1970�s at the Maryland and New Jersey beaches, and continued to do so upon returning to New Orleans in 1980. She has painted, literally, thousands of portraits in water media, pastel, and oils, which grace public and private collections internationally.
