This is a favorite scene of mine. It has many of my favorite New Orleans themes/ the Cathedral, horse and carriages, and local musicians.There is always something to celebrate in New Orleans, and the brass bands add a personal touch to the festivities. The colorful musicians, their instruments, and individual characteristics are often the focal point of my paintings. In this instance, I began the painting in the studio, and completed it on location at a convention exhibition/ it was auctioned to benefit Covenant House - a local nonprofit that gives homeless and runaway teenagers safe haven, and opportunities to improve their lives.
Louisiana born artist Beverly Boulet began art studies at age four, and, luckily, had art classes all through elementary and high school, plus Summer art camps. She studied fashion design at West Virginia University, and continued her art education with workshops by noted portrait artists, including John Howard Sanden, Daniel Greene, and Foster Caddell. Ms. Boulet began painting murals and portraits in the early 1970�s at the Maryland and New Jersey beaches, and continued to do so upon returning to New Orleans in 1980. She has painted, literally, thousands of portraits in water media, pastel, and oils, which grace public and private collections internationally.
