An original painting of Uncle Lionel Baptiste, drummer with the Treme Brass Band, dressed "to the nines" for French Quarter Fest.
He was strolling down Frenchmen Street, carrying his often present drumsticks.
This is a mixed media painting (pastel and watercolor) on cotton rag paper.
Louisiana born artist Beverly Boulet began art studies at age four, and, luckily, had art classes all through elementary and high school, plus Summer art camps. She studied fashion design at West Virginia University, and continued her art education with workshops by noted portrait artists, including John Howard Sanden, Daniel Greene, and Foster Caddell. She has painted, literally, thousands of portraits in water media, pastel, and oils, which grace public and private collections internationally. She has, also, exhibited and garnered awards in group and juried shows,...

Uncle Lionel was indeed a character/ sang, danced, played the drum, and was always impeccably dressed. We miss him very much! I'm glad you like the painting. Thank you!
